It has been two years since I blogged! But I just had to write tonight as I was giggling, thinking
about my Sunday morning Bible Study Class… Yes… giggling!
God has blessed me to have been a
Sunday Morning Bible Teacher for older children, for our college group, for
adult ladies, but this is the first time
ever to teach a kindergarten class. Ive been teaching them for about 4 months now, I think... And they
are adorable!
Last Sunday
I was very excited to teach Isaiah 6… Now to understand this I have to tell you
that in seminary wives class I was blessed to sit under a professor teaching
Isaiah 6, I have studied the passage many times… I LOVE IT!!! So much “meat”
there! But alas, Kindergarten can only take “milk”, so I did my best to put the
information on their level. We sing songs, play games related to the topic, color
pages, etc.… And I do understand that to get them to concentrate on anything for
very long is difficult, so I look them each in the eye as I tell the Bible “History”
lesson that points to our “future”… I use a lot of big arm movements, even make
them participate in the story… So here we were, Isaiah 6…
Me: So there Isaiah was, worshiping in church,
like he always did, (put your hands together like Isaiah when he was praying in
church) when God gave him a vision! What is a vision do you think?
Child
#1: Vision is seeing good when you have glasses
on.
Me: Great
answer! This vision did not need glasses though. This vision was like a dream Isaiah
saw while he was awake. God gave Isaiah a vision of something that was going on
in heaven. He got to see heaven, even though he
was sitting in church! (open your eyes big, like you see something!) He saw God seated on His throne! His robe was so long it filled up the whole
floor! And there were angels surrounding His throne! Guess what the angels looked
like?
Child 1 & 2: They have wings and white dresses and long hair!
Me: Yes, they did have wings! Six wings! Two covered their faces, two covered their feet, and
two were used for flying! They were singing “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord Almighty!
(There is a song we sing in big church that goes like that!) And…
Child
#2: Miss Debbi, Miss Debbi!
Me:
Yes?
Child #2: Your
toes look like chicken nuggets!
(Now, this
was a serious comment. She really likes chicken nuggets! How can we get back to
the lesson from here? Where did I go
wrong? Is this something like when we read in Songs of Solomon – “Your hair is
like a flock of goats” “Your teeth are like a flock of sheep”…?")
Well, I
thanked her and we went on with the lesson… Doorpost shook, the place was
filled with smoke, Isaiah realizing he was a man of unclean lips, an angel
putting a hot coal from the sacrificial fire on Isaiah’s lips, his guilt
removed, “Whom shall I send?” “Here I
am, send me!”
I got home much later
and pondered the class... God has blessed me with an opportunity to tell these precious ones
truth in a way that they will understand. Seeds of truth are planted in an atmosphere full of laughter and chicken nuggets. And once again I
am thankful to have The Sacrifice’s blood cleansing me and asking me “Whom
shall I send?” and I respond, “Here I am, send me!”
Amen!
