Isaiah 6 and Chicken Nuggets

It has been two years since I blogged! But I just had to write tonight as I was giggling, thinking about my Sunday morning Bible Study Class… Yes… giggling!

God has blessed me to have been a Sunday Morning Bible Teacher for older children, for our college group, for adult  ladies, but this is the first time ever to teach a kindergarten class.  Ive been teaching them for about 4 months now, I think... And they are adorable!

Last Sunday I was very excited to teach Isaiah 6… Now to understand this I have to tell you that in seminary wives class I was blessed to sit under a professor teaching Isaiah 6, I have studied the passage many times… I LOVE IT!!! So much “meat” there! But alas, Kindergarten can only take “milk”, so I did my best to put the information on their level. We sing songs, play games related to the topic, color pages, etc.… And I do understand that to get them to concentrate on anything for very long is difficult, so I look them each in the eye as I tell the Bible “History” lesson that points to our “future”… I use a lot of big arm movements, even make them participate in the story… So here we were, Isaiah 6…

Me:  So there Isaiah was, worshiping in church, like he always did, (put your hands together like Isaiah when he was praying in church) when God gave him a vision! What is a vision do you think?

Child #1:  Vision is seeing good when you have glasses on.

Me: Great answer! This vision did not need glasses though. This vision was like a dream Isaiah saw while he was awake. God gave Isaiah a vision of something that was going on in heaven. He got to see heaven, even though he was sitting in church! (open your eyes big, like you see something!) He saw God seated on His throne! His robe was so long it filled up the whole floor! And there were angels surrounding His throne! Guess what the angels looked like?

Child 1 & 2: They have wings and white dresses and long hair!

Me:  Yes, they did have wings! Six wings! Two covered their faces, two covered their feet, and two were used for flying! They were singing “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord Almighty! (There is a song we sing in big church that goes like that!)  And…

Child #2:  Miss Debbi, Miss Debbi!

Me: Yes?

Child #2: Your toes look like chicken nuggets!

(Now, this was a serious comment. She really likes chicken nuggets! How can we get back to the lesson from here?  Where did I go wrong? Is this something like when we read in Songs of Solomon – “Your hair is like a flock of goats” “Your teeth are like a flock of sheep”…?")

Well, I thanked her and we went on with the lesson… Doorpost shook, the place was filled with smoke, Isaiah realizing he was a man of unclean lips, an angel putting a hot coal from the sacrificial fire on Isaiah’s lips, his guilt removed, “Whom shall I send?”  “Here I am, send me!”

I got home much later and pondered the class... God has blessed me with an opportunity to tell these precious ones truth in a way that they will understand. Seeds of truth are planted in an atmosphere full of laughter and chicken nuggets. And once again I am thankful to have The Sacrifice’s blood cleansing me and asking me “Whom shall I send?” and I respond, “Here I am, send me!”

Amen!

A Message For Women Of God... Or To Those Who Are Not...

Recently I was blessed to share a message with the ladies of my church. Several people were touched by what I had shared and so I have decided to post what I shared. I hope it blesses you and gives you something to think about...

A Bride... What Does That Mean?

When I look back to when I was first in love with my husband…

  •  I knew I needed to purposefully keep my purity in check for him and I felt like I’d prepared to be his wife all my life.

  •  I did not know him fully, but I adored him.
  • I wanted to be with him, to talk to him all the time, to be seen with him,

  • I wanted to be known as belonging to him

  •  I even wanted to dress in clothing he’d appreciate.

  •  I wanted to know what he thought.

  •   I wanted to please him.

  •  I wanted to serve him.

  •  I dreamed of children someday, and to have those children look like him and be like him and

  •  learn our ways as a couple,

  •  teaching them how we work together as a team.

  •  Showing them that their daddy’s ways were the best route to a good life; a life of love and deep down joy.

  •   I wanted to do things with our family.

These are just a few of the dreams a Bride may have. These desires were not labeled in my heart as responsibilities, but joys!  Did you know that the church is the “Bride of Christ”? So as a person who has accepted Christ as her Savior you are His bride, the fulfillment of which will be at the Wedding Supper of the Lamb referred to in Revelation.
(Revelation 19:7-9).
Let us rejoice and be glad
    and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
    was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

Those are some of my FAVORITE verses!
If we are followers of Jesus Christ we know that nothing can separate us from the love of God.  Romans 8:38-39 says, For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord
God loves us so much Christ gave His life for us. He is passionate about us!  Even before we were followers! (John 3:16)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
We also know that He is always at work for our best interest. He will take the difficult things in life and make good of them if we allow Him to do so.   (Romans 8:28) 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
He has a plan to prosper us. (Jer. 29:11)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
He is with us always. (Matthew 28:20b) And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
He wants to have a conversation with us all the time. (1 Thess. 5:17) 17 pray continually,
He wants us to think of Him as our best friend. (John 15:13-15) 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
It is His joy to have that relationship with us! (Hebrews 12:2) fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
He is jealous for us. (Exodus 20:2-6) “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
“You shall have no other gods before me.
“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
By the way, God’s jealousy is not man’s jealousy. You know the scenario, the man comes home, finds his wife in another man’s arms and in shock goes into a rage! No, God is jealous FOR us, not ABOUT us!  He wants our best as we’ve already discussed and when we do not follow Him closely we lose God’s best for us! He is jealous for us!

Now that’s a romance!

Did you notice verse 7 of Revelation19 “…For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.  So I started thinking… What kind of bride am I? What kind of bride are you?

  •  Do we adore Christ?

  •  Do we want to talk to Him in prayer continuously, knowing and trusting that He is there and wants our best, even when that means circumstances may be difficult for a while?

  •  Do we want to know what He thinks about the decisions we are struggling with?

  •  Do we want to please Him?

  •  Do we dress respectfully for Him?

  •  Do we have spiritual children? In other words have we told others about this awesome Groom we have and led them to a saving faith in Him, adding to His children?

  •  Are we mentoring others, formally or informally to help them resemble their Father?

  •  Are we connected to a family of God, a church family?

  •  Do we serve God when He asks?

  •  Are we practicing a life of purity? And if you are, is it out of love or out of responsibility?

Or do we resemble the world? Married in name only - married, but have grown weary of it.
Do we sometimes skip church to have our own version of “Sabbath fun”? Hebrews 10:25 says not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Do we serve God under duress?
Do we hate the word submissive? Do we want to be in control all the time?
Is dealing with the process of having spiritual children just not something we want to get into?
Have we had an affair with the god of wealth, family, beauty, popularity? (Or anything else that takes our focus off of the One True God?) That is adultery, by the way! Is God stepping on our toes tonight?

But there is Good News!  We - YOU can get that passion back again!  In a good marriage counseling session, where you have been the unfaithful spouse, the counselor will have you to look back at when you first met your spouse… recalling the joy of expectation and the joy of everything being new in your relationship… remembering the pure joy and the freedom of your love.
The Counselor will lead you to confess your sin of walking away mentally/spiritually/physically from your spouse. You must ask for forgiveness. But there is one more step… You must accept forgiveness.
God is that spouse. Ready to forgive you; ready to start over. He is not going to walk away. He is still standing at the door and knocking… (Revelation 3:20)  20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.  God is NOT a God of second chances… He’s a God of ANOTHER chance! No matter how many times you’ve failed He is waiting for you to return to Him. (2 Cor. 7:1) Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

If God is convicting you that you have been unfaithful to Jesus, and you want to make it right tonight and start fresh you can do that.
I’d also like to speak to those of you who have never prayed and asked Jesus to be your Savior… The Bible says in Romans 10:9 that… If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  So if you have never asked for His forgiveness and never made a life turning decision to follow His lead, I believe that God is speaking to your heart right now. You may have known earthly “love” but you have not known “true love” yet. Jesus loved you so much that He died in your place for your sin. All you have to do is accept that gift.  He has a place in heaven He is preparing for each of His loved ones, ones who have made the decision to ask Him into their life. If you’d like that kind of love in your life, the kind of love that gives a deep down joy, a deep down peace, even in difficult situations in life… all it takes is an honest prayer of surrender.

Dear Lord, Jesus,
Thank you for joining us here. Thank you that You love us. You have seen the hearts of all reading this.  Lord, I ask that your will be done and that no one leaves this time without getting things right with you. We hold on to Philippians 1:6… “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus”.  Please bless everyone who has read this, keeping them safe in your loving arms and we thank you in the name that is LOVE, Jesus. Amen!

Many Blessing,

Until All Have Heard!

God Is My Daddy

I just had to write today or the rocks would cry out!  I love Jesus! He is not only my God, my Redeemer, my Provider, and so on... but He is my Daddy.  Let me tell you about yesterday...
I did my Bible study in the morning studying about the lady with the issue of blood and the little girl that Jesus healed. I prayed that I see the miracles that are before me, that my eyes were open to His love and mercy all around me.  Then my day began.
I had a lot of running around to do getting ready for a Ladies Tea that is coming up next weekend at church. It was rainy and cool out and the wind was blowing hard, but I had things to do. I used my phone for note taking, for internet use, for pictures of things I need to match, etc...
I got home and my sweet husband wanted to go to eat dinner. We had a gift card for Red Lobster, so off we went. When we pulled into the parking lot he asked me to get out, go in and put our name on the list for a table. It was sprinkling rain when I jumped out of the car and ran in to the restaurant. We waited 40 minutes, got our table, ate at a leisurely pace. During the meal I noticed my phone was missing, but I thought I had most likely left it at home. No worries. When I got home I realized to my horror that my phone was missing! We called my phone six times. No answer. I panicked. I got on Facebook and asked my friends to pray for me and pray also that my phone would be found by an honest person who would call and return it to me. At that point I remembered that my phone has a "find my phone" feature where you can tell what building your phone is located, but I had forgotten the code! I called my son who had helped me set the phone up and he walked me through changing the password and we found that the phone was still at Red Lobster, so off we flew to Red Lobster. My son also tried to call my phone, but only once (seven calls, by the way). Anyway, while my husband sent me into the restaurant he stayed in the truck and through his phone locked my phone down so no one could use it. He then put a message on my phone saying, "This phone has been lost, please call number ########. Thank you." Then he made it make a strange sound to alert the person who had it that there was a message.
Cuddos to iPhone!  Wow!
(Side note: Red Lobster employees were as helpful and understanding as they could be! Cuddos to Red Lobster not just for their awesome food!)
As my husband came in to the restaurant to join me in the search he received a phone call from the Chinese restaurant next door to Red Lobster. They said a customer had found my phone in the parking lot and had turned it in! We walked next door and I got my phone back... Answered prayer for sure.  But there is more to this story!
You see, this morning I awoke to the Lord giving me my morning song... this morning it was "And all the people said AMEN" The Lord is good and His mercies never end... And all the people said "Amen"... I remembered His miracle of getting my phone back to me.  Answered prayer from yesterday... open my eyes to your love and mercies, Lord! I smiled and then I got up to do my Bible study and I heard the Lord laugh at me as I remembered my Bible study the day before yesterday...  I had  studied Mark 4:35-41, where Jesus and the disciples got in the boat and started across the lake. The storm came and scared the disciples, but Jesus lay in the boat sleeping... resting in peace while everyone else panicked. I was reading the Bible putting myself as each person in the story. Was I most like Jesus (the Bible says we are to be imitators of Him), or was I most like the disciples? Well, I thought I was somewhere in the middle... my prayer two days ago? Trust Jesus in my storms, imitate Him and go on in peace knowing all is safe! When the realization hit me that I had failed that test I felt very down. I failed you, Lord... and then I heard Him laugh. Not audible, but I heard Him in my heart. That is something a Daddy would do... when knowing His child is trying, but just can't reach the goal yet, He gives His child understanding and love. Grace and Mercy. And reminds His child that He is not given up on me, that He is not finished with me yet. How can you not LOVE a God like that! Amen!
Now I'll get to my Bible Study... had to write all this down or the rocks would have cried out... Today's study... Mark 6:35-44... The feeding of the 5,000... wonder if this has anything to do with getting everything ready for the tea next weekend?  Oh, how I love God! Now listen to the song God woke me up with this morning...   And All The People Said "Amen"

Good News!

Dear Friends and Family,

Hello!  It has been a while since I’ve been in touch with friends and family outside of good old Fresno, CA.  David, the boys (and my girls!), and I are doing very well. Robert and Steph are moving to San Francisco in September to do a church plant in the arts district of San Francisco.  We are enjoying them living in our home for the next two months as they wait to move to San Francisco. Randy and Hillari (the newlyweds) are buying a small place just down the street. They have been serving at New Covenant church for a couple of years, serving in the youth department.  Randy was an intern for them and was preaching weekly. They have stepped down for now and are getting used to married life.  Nick is going to be an assistant manager at a new type of Jamba Juice soon, working as a lead in the older store now. He has been dating his sweet girlfriend, Heidi, for two years now. He is still in school and working for his degree. He is serving in the praise team at “The Well”. God has gifted him with a LOT of musical talent.

When David was voted in as the new pastor of Cornelia Avenue Southern Baptist Church
October 30, 2011

David is the senior pastor at Cornelia Avenue Baptist Church in Fresno.  I am so proud of him!  I can’t wait for church each Sunday to hear what God has put on his heart.  I learn a lot from him weekly as he speaks God’s Truth. As for me, I am busy up to my ears!  I am working as a secretary for another church in town. (We represent 5 churches in Fresno!) I am the women’s director at our church as well as the Bible Study teacher for the college group. We just finished VBS at our church and next week I get to do it all over again with the church I work for!  Ahhhh…. Evening VBS!  Work all day and keep up with energetic kids in the evening!  Seriously, I got saved in VBS and I LOVE it!  So “Colossal Coaster World” is awesome to me!

If I wasn’t busy enough, I believe God has called me to go on another (my 3rd in 9 years!) short term mission trip in October.  I will be going to Jinja, Uganda (Africa).  I have three other people in our church who will be joining me. I will be going with the same group and leader I’ve gone with twice before.  (Sonia Burnell with International Commision).  International Commission (IC) has a partnership with the International Mission Board and I feel safe traveling with them, as they take care of all the details so that I can focus on the mission. Here’s how they work… a country’s Baptist churches ask for missionaries to come to their area/IC sends a leader to teach the pastors what is needed from them… a full year out they must have each congregant fill out an “Operation Andrew” form… meaning that they write out 10 names of friends, neighbors, relatives, that they believe do not know the Lord (that is within 8 miles of their church). They are to pray for the hearts of those on their list daily along with praying for God to send the missionaries needed to reach them. Meanwhile IC looks for missionaries in the United States to go in the name of Jesus to this area. Once a person believes God is calling them to the field they must fill out the application packet, send in a deposit, and purchase their passport and shots and mail out support letters, and plan events to support the mission financially… and…. and! Once in Uganda I will be assigned to a specific church and daily visit in homes within an 8 mile radius of the church and share my personal testimony in simple terms, written in their language, of how I came to know Christ.  I will then invite them to make a decision for Jesus. I have heard people say, “Going on a mission is just a vacation”… I say, then go on one and see!  It is work, hard work!  But the blessings that come from knowing you are doing God’s will and that even though you probably won’t ever see the ones who accept Christ as their Savior again on earth you WILL see them again, in heaven and you won’t need an interpreter… well, that is enough for me to work really hard and humble myself and ask for help to go!

So here are my needs:
  • Prayer support
  • Financial ($3400)

As I work at home in Fresno, my own “harvest field” I am asking you to pray about being a part of my going to the harvest field of Uganda.  You may want to become a prayer partner, a financial partner, or maybe even both.

Prayer partners are asked to fill out and return the prayer partner form enclosed in this letter and pray for us from now until we return home safely.  Here are just a few concerns that I have laid at the feet of the Lord… The funds, my health, safe travel, prepared hearts (mine and those I will be sharing with).  I especially pray for victory in Jesus name! I covet any prayers on my behalf!

Would you consider helping me financially as I go to answer God’s call?  I do put my own money into preparation also, but it is true that every God given ministry requires God’s people to support it. Whatever God leads you to give to this mission project would be a great blessing.  Every dollar counts!  As the Lord leads you, please make your check payable to International Commission and return it to me.

I would also love to get encouraging mail from you.  I am making a scrapbook of everything to do with this trip and I would love to include notes of encouragement from prayer partners, etc….  I will be taking this scrapbook with me to Africa.  Please send me your e-mail addresses. I will send you prayer request as they come up and I will also e-mail pictures from the trip when I get home and let you see and hear about the work that you were a part of!

Following Him,

Debbi Peugh

This is a picture of me sharing about Jesus at the middle school
in Mwanza, Tanzania in 2009
In the church I was assigned there were over 350 salvations within walking distance of the church!

Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.
