Good News!

Dear Friends and Family,

Hello!  It has been a while since I’ve been in touch with friends and family outside of good old Fresno, CA.  David, the boys (and my girls!), and I are doing very well. Robert and Steph are moving to San Francisco in September to do a church plant in the arts district of San Francisco.  We are enjoying them living in our home for the next two months as they wait to move to San Francisco. Randy and Hillari (the newlyweds) are buying a small place just down the street. They have been serving at New Covenant church for a couple of years, serving in the youth department.  Randy was an intern for them and was preaching weekly. They have stepped down for now and are getting used to married life.  Nick is going to be an assistant manager at a new type of Jamba Juice soon, working as a lead in the older store now. He has been dating his sweet girlfriend, Heidi, for two years now. He is still in school and working for his degree. He is serving in the praise team at “The Well”. God has gifted him with a LOT of musical talent.

When David was voted in as the new pastor of Cornelia Avenue Southern Baptist Church
October 30, 2011

David is the senior pastor at Cornelia Avenue Baptist Church in Fresno.  I am so proud of him!  I can’t wait for church each Sunday to hear what God has put on his heart.  I learn a lot from him weekly as he speaks God’s Truth. As for me, I am busy up to my ears!  I am working as a secretary for another church in town. (We represent 5 churches in Fresno!) I am the women’s director at our church as well as the Bible Study teacher for the college group. We just finished VBS at our church and next week I get to do it all over again with the church I work for!  Ahhhh…. Evening VBS!  Work all day and keep up with energetic kids in the evening!  Seriously, I got saved in VBS and I LOVE it!  So “Colossal Coaster World” is awesome to me!

If I wasn’t busy enough, I believe God has called me to go on another (my 3rd in 9 years!) short term mission trip in October.  I will be going to Jinja, Uganda (Africa).  I have three other people in our church who will be joining me. I will be going with the same group and leader I’ve gone with twice before.  (Sonia Burnell with International Commision).  International Commission (IC) has a partnership with the International Mission Board and I feel safe traveling with them, as they take care of all the details so that I can focus on the mission. Here’s how they work… a country’s Baptist churches ask for missionaries to come to their area/IC sends a leader to teach the pastors what is needed from them… a full year out they must have each congregant fill out an “Operation Andrew” form… meaning that they write out 10 names of friends, neighbors, relatives, that they believe do not know the Lord (that is within 8 miles of their church). They are to pray for the hearts of those on their list daily along with praying for God to send the missionaries needed to reach them. Meanwhile IC looks for missionaries in the United States to go in the name of Jesus to this area. Once a person believes God is calling them to the field they must fill out the application packet, send in a deposit, and purchase their passport and shots and mail out support letters, and plan events to support the mission financially… and…. and! Once in Uganda I will be assigned to a specific church and daily visit in homes within an 8 mile radius of the church and share my personal testimony in simple terms, written in their language, of how I came to know Christ.  I will then invite them to make a decision for Jesus. I have heard people say, “Going on a mission is just a vacation”… I say, then go on one and see!  It is work, hard work!  But the blessings that come from knowing you are doing God’s will and that even though you probably won’t ever see the ones who accept Christ as their Savior again on earth you WILL see them again, in heaven and you won’t need an interpreter… well, that is enough for me to work really hard and humble myself and ask for help to go!

So here are my needs:
  • Prayer support
  • Financial ($3400)

As I work at home in Fresno, my own “harvest field” I am asking you to pray about being a part of my going to the harvest field of Uganda.  You may want to become a prayer partner, a financial partner, or maybe even both.

Prayer partners are asked to fill out and return the prayer partner form enclosed in this letter and pray for us from now until we return home safely.  Here are just a few concerns that I have laid at the feet of the Lord… The funds, my health, safe travel, prepared hearts (mine and those I will be sharing with).  I especially pray for victory in Jesus name! I covet any prayers on my behalf!

Would you consider helping me financially as I go to answer God’s call?  I do put my own money into preparation also, but it is true that every God given ministry requires God’s people to support it. Whatever God leads you to give to this mission project would be a great blessing.  Every dollar counts!  As the Lord leads you, please make your check payable to International Commission and return it to me.

I would also love to get encouraging mail from you.  I am making a scrapbook of everything to do with this trip and I would love to include notes of encouragement from prayer partners, etc….  I will be taking this scrapbook with me to Africa.  Please send me your e-mail addresses. I will send you prayer request as they come up and I will also e-mail pictures from the trip when I get home and let you see and hear about the work that you were a part of!

in Mwanza, Tanzania in 2009
In the church I was assigned there were over 350 salvations within walking distance of the church!

Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.
